What's the role?

Etsy is seeking a Senior Director, Product Analytics to join our Products organization. You will be responsible for leading the team that provides industry-leading product measurement techniques, actionable insights, and a deep understanding of Etsy's buyers and sellers across the customer journey. In addition, you should be an experienced Analytics professional with a track record of success in a dynamic, fast-growing environment and experience working closely with Product, Marketing, and Finance teams.

This is a full-time position reporting to the VP, Analytics.

What's this team like at Etsy?

Data scientists at Etsy use rigorous methods to generate insights that inform product, marketing, engineering, and business decisions across the company. We collaborate with partner teams through all stages of development: actively uncovering opportunity areas, crafting experiments to test hypotheses, analyzing the impact of our efforts, and highlighting takeaway. Learning new skills and techniques is not only a requirement but a perk of the job! We are always looking for opportunities to grow. Our mission is to guide our partner teams with data and insights and tell the story of how we attract and retain our users - to teams, to senior management, and to the community.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Serve as a primary thought partner to our CPTO - helping shape the product strategy agenda through deep analytical insight, proactive opportunity identification, and a clear point of view on what the data is telling us
  • Partner with senior leaders across Product and Engineering to set the measurement strategy for Etsy's core buyer and seller experiences
  • Manage a large, high-performing team of ~30 data scientists and managers supporting Product initiatives
  • Develop and evolve analytical frameworks, experimentation methodology, and data science techniques to measure and improve product performance - including funnel analysis, A/B testing and causal inference, user segmentation, retention modeling, and feature impact measurement
  • Define and steward Etsy's product metric frameworks, ensuring teams across Product, Engineering, and Finance share a consistent understanding of how product decisions connect to business outcomes
  • Partner closely with Finance to model the product contribution that feeds into Etsy's financial forecast - translating product performance signals into the inputs that drive GMS outlook and long-range planning
  • Partner with Engineering and Data Platform teams to ensure robust instrumentation, data quality, and scalable tooling for product experimentation and analytics
  • While you'll spend most of your time leading and influencing, you won't just manage from a distance - you're expected to get your own data, do your own analysis, and bring a credible analytical point of view to the most important strategic conversations
  • Actively identify and surface strategic opportunities across our buyer and seller product portfolio through proactive insight generation
  • Raise the skill level of our Analytics function through strong practices, processes, and tools, and close mentorship of both direct reports and the broader team
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
  • 10+ years of experience leading analytics initiatives, with significant tenure in product analytics roles and a deep understanding of marketplace dynamics
  • 6+ years leading analytics teams, including managing managers
  • Deep expertise in product analytics techniques, including experimentation design and analysis, causal inference, funnel and retention analysis, user segmentation, and product metric frameworks
  • Proven ability to build measurement systems that connect product engagement to business and financial outcomes, including contributing to financial forecasting processes
  • Comfortable getting your own data - you write SQL, work directly in BigQuery or similar, and don't need an analyst to pull numbers for you when you want to investigate something
  • Advanced experience with analytics tools including SQL, R/Python; familiarity with modern data stacks (e.g., BigQuery, dbt, Looker)
  • Passionate about using data to drive product decisions; equally strong analytically and in translating complexity into clear, actionable narratives
  • Natural collaborator who knows how to drive decision-making through influence across Product, Engineering, and Finance, with a forward-looking and solutions-oriented approach
  • Inspiring, engaging, and clear communication style; strong executive presence - you're as comfortable presenting to a room of data scientists as you are advising the CPTO
  • Proven track record of building strong teams through active development and recruiting top talent
