DEPARTMENT: REGIONAL OPERATIONS AND COORDINATION Division: Regional Operations: Region 4 Section: Community Services Location: Centurion Depot Reference number SDTM1325-4-2026 Position CHAINSAW OPERATOR To be advertised Internal External This position seeks to attract African female African male Coloured female Coloured male Indian female Indian male White female White male Person with disability All categories Job level T2 Scale R180 864,00 – R217 740,00 per annum Estimated remuneration package R262 140,00 – R309 076,00 per annum Job purpose To prune and fell trees and other vegetation on road reserves and in public open spaces during normal office hours and after hours to ensure the environmental well-being of Tshwane and the region Appointment requirements Ability to perform duties Basic literacy Chain saw operator certificate Relevant working experience in operating a chainsaw will be an added advantage Physical fitness and good health with the ability to carry equipment and machines Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost Willingness and ability to work shifts Personal attributes and/or competencies Have a strong physique; ability to work in a natural environment without any allergies; ability to do physical work related to operational and maintenance activities for continuous periods in an outdoor environment; ability to work under pressure; ability to work in a group; good communication skills; good technical skills; high hand-eye coordination; willingness to accept responsibility flexibility and adaptability; being self-motivated; being hard-working; punctuality; responsibility; accountability; reliability; basic understanding of tree-cutting practices; no fear of heights; excellent eyesight Primary functions Perform the reactive pruning and felling of trees and other vegetation on road reserves and in public open spaces using mechanical and non-mechanical equipment and tools, including aerial platforms and truck-mounted cranes Load branches and debris due to storms and at sites where the pruning or felling of trees and other vegetation have been done Maintain mechanical and non-mechanical equipment used in the execution of duties, as well as the allocated vehicle Use and operate an aerial platform and associated tasks as and when required during the pruning and felling of trees and other vegetation Assist as and when required with the operation of truck-mounted cranes and other associated tasks Deliver an emergency service after hours pertaining to the pruning and felling of trees and other vegetation Adhere to all health and safety regulations, and other required policies and procedures Assist with and perform all prescribed safety measures, tasks and duties at road works SAP S70027230* New/natural attrition WPC Enquiries D Chetty (012 358 6415), T Modikoa (012 358 8961) or T Mawela (012 358 3249)
