Oracle Cloud Financials Functional Lead / Finance SME – Utilities

Location: Hybrid – Up to 20% travel to Baltimore, MD or Chicago, IL

Duration: 10 Months

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Oracle Cloud Financials Functional Lead / Finance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a large-scale Customer Transformation Program focused on modernizing customer platforms, financial operations, and enterprise integrations within an Oracle Utilities environment.

The ideal candidate will possess deep functional expertise in Oracle Cloud Financials, with extensive hands-on configuration experience in General Ledger (GL) and Project Portfolio Management (PPM), along with a strong understanding of Subledger Accounting (SLA) configuration and accounting rules. This individual will serve as the functional lead for Finance, partnering closely with client stakeholders, Oracle Utilities functional teams, system integrators, and offshore development teams to design, configure, test, and implement enterprise financial solutions that support utility business processes.

This role requires an experienced consultant who can confidently lead client workshops, facilitate design sessions, drive solution decisions, and coordinate delivery across globally distributed project teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the Oracle Cloud Financials functional workstream for a large-scale Oracle Utilities Customer Transformation Program.
  • Partner with Finance, Accounting, PMO, Oracle Utilities, and business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and validate business requirements.
  • Lead functional design workshops and solution review sessions with client leadership.
  • Configure Oracle Cloud Financials modules with a primary focus on:
  • General Ledger (GL)
  • Project Portfolio Management (PPM)
  • Configure and maintain Subledger Accounting (SLA) rules to support utility accounting and financial reporting requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into functional designs and configuration specifications.
  • Develop Functional Design Documents (FDDs), configuration workbooks, process flows, and business requirements documentation.
  • Collaborate with Oracle Utilities functional teams to ensure seamless integration between financial modules and utility operational systems.
  • Support interface design and validation between Oracle Cloud Financials and enterprise applications.
  • Partner with technical teams to define integration requirements, accounting events, and financial data flows.
  • Support data conversion, reconciliation, and financial validation activities.
  • Participate in solution design reviews, configuration validation, and integration planning.
  • Lead System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), defect triage, and issue resolution activities.
  • Support mock cutovers, production deployments, hypercare, and post-production stabilization.
  • Coordinate and mentor offshore functional and technical teams while ensuring timely project delivery.
  • Provide functional leadership throughout the project lifecycle and proactively identify project risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on configuration experience with Oracle Cloud Financials.
  • Deep functional expertise in:
  • General Ledger (GL)
  • Project Portfolio Management (PPM)
  • Strong understanding of Subledger Accounting (SLA) architecture and accounting rules.
  • Experience configuring accounting events, journal entries, and financial reporting structures.
  • Experience supporting enterprise financial transformations and ERP implementations.
  • Ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable Oracle Cloud Financials solutions.

  • 8+ years of Oracle Financials functional consulting experience.
  • Multiple full lifecycle Oracle Cloud Financials implementation projects.
  • Proven experience configuring Oracle Cloud GL and PPM.
  • Strong expertise in Oracle Subledger Accounting (SLA).
  • Experience supporting Oracle Utilities or utility industry transformation programs.
  • Demonstrated success leading client workshops and managing offshore delivery teams.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, communication, and leadership skills.
