NDT Inspector/Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
About the position
We are seeking a highly skilled NDT Inspector / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform welding inspections, non-destructive testing (NDT), and quality assurance activities at customer sites and fabrication facilities. This position requires extensive travel (primarily regional with some overnight travel) and includes the use of a company-provided vehicle. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, customer specifications, and company quality requirements while representing the company professionally in the field.
Responsibilities
- Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections using methods such as: Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT) (preferred).
- Conduct welding inspections in accordance with AWS, ASME, API, and customer specifications.
- Travel to customer locations, fabrication shops, and field sites to perform inspections and quality assurance activities.
- Safely operate a company-provided vehicle while traveling to assigned job sites.
- Interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records.
- Review fabrication drawings, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), and quality documentation.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate inspection records.
- Identify weld and dimensional errors and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, customer requirements, and quality management systems.
- Coordinate with production, engineering, quality personnel, customers, and third-party inspectors.
- Participate in customer audits and third-party inspection.
Requirements
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (Preferred).
- Level II certification in one or more NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT) in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A or NAS-410.
- High school diploma or technical degree in Welding, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding inspection and NDT.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel 75–90% of the time, including overnight travel as required.
- Strong knowledge of welding codes, specifications, and NDT standards.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and inspection reporting software.
- Ability to work independently in both field and shop environments.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage travel schedules and multiple inspection assignments.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with ASME Section V, VIII, IX, API 1104, API 650, or AWS D1.1.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Experience in heavy fabrication, structural steel, pressure vessels, or pipeline construction.
- Strong understanding of welding processes including GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, and SAW.
