Local Group Indoor Meetings Organiser (Speaker Organiser - Bedford)

Bedford Local Group is an active group with an exciting and varied programme of field trips and indoor meetings. We are a friendly bunch so if you are interested in birds or wildlife more generally this is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn more about birds and nature.

We need a new Speaker Organiser to help organise our programme of bird, wildlife and conservation focused talks for our indoor meetings. You don't need to be an experienced birder or a technical expert but you will need reasonably good organisation skills, and communication skills, both by email and face to face. If you think you have these, are based in the Bedford area, care about nature, and have a few hours to spare each month, we would love to hear from you.

**What we would like you to do:**

- Contact and book a speaker for each of our 8 indoor meetings per year, negotiating fees and expenses within an agreed annual budget.

- Liaise with each speaker at the time of booking and prior to their talk to ensure we have sufficient information from them to be able to publicise their talk, and that they have all the information they need from us.

- Be present at our indoor meetings to welcome the speaker, ensure smooth set up, and help deal with any issues that may arise.

- Join our committee and attend 3 committee meetings per year.(These are no more than an hour long).

- Update the committee at each committee meeting on speaker booking progress, and liaise with committee members on matters such as talk topics where appropriate, and the speaker budget.

- Liaise with the Treasurer regarding speaker fees & payment.

- Deliver a brief report to the members at our Annual General Meeting (AGM).

**What skills do I need?**

- Good organisation and communication skills

- Computer literate with internet and email access

**What's in it for me? **

This is an opportunity to use your skills to make a valuable contribution towards helping nature. You'll get to join our activities, meet like-minded people and learn more about birds, wildlife and conservation. You will also learn more about the RSPB. This role can be done mostly from home, so is flexible and can fit in around other commitments. You'll have access to RSPB internal and external Speakers directories as well as the support of your volunteer team. You will also have the support of our current Speaker Organiser and the benefit of a long handover period.

As an RSPB volunteer you will have access to a number of benefits including a 20% discount on most items in RSPB shops, cafes and online.
