Local Delivery Driver - Hazardous Materials Specialist
About the Role Our client, a leading chemical distribution company, is looking for a dedicated and safety-conscious Local Delivery Driver with specialized expertise in handling hazardous materials to join their team in **Tembisa, Gauteng**. This critical role involves the transportation of chemicals and related products to various industrial and commercial clients within the **Tembisa** region and surrounding areas. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and exceptional driving skills. This position is essential for maintaining our client's reputation for reliable and secure delivery services. As this is a hands-on operational role, it requires a physical presence at the distribution center in **Tembisa**, making remote work not applicable. Key Responsibilities Safely operate a commercial vehicle for the local delivery of hazardous materials. Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, including those set by the Department of Transport and industry-specific guidelines for hazardous goods. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and its equipment. Ensure proper loading and unloading of hazardous materials, using appropriate safety gear and procedures. Maintain accurate delivery logs, including manifests, timecards, and vehicle condition reports. Provide excellent customer service during deliveries, ensuring all client requirements are met. Report any incidents, accidents, or safety concerns immediately to management. Participate in regular safety training and compliance refreshers. Maintain a clean and organized vehicle interior and exterior. Assist with warehouse duties as needed, including inventory checks and basic stock management. Requirements Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) and a clean driving record. Proven experience as a professional driver, with a minimum of 2 years specifically handling hazardous materials. Valid Hazchem certification and knowledge of its regulations. Ability to read, understand, and follow safety data sheets (SDS) and transport regulations. Excellent physical condition and the ability to lift heavy loads (up to 25kg). Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety above all else. Good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and team members. Willingness to work flexible hours if required, including occasional early starts.
