Overview

A Library Assistant is the first point of contact for users of the library. Library Assistants deal with the public in person and on the telephone, answering enquiries, assisting them in using self-service machines and public computers, staffing the council information point and signposting to other agencies. This part time post for 11.75 hours is at Handforth Library. This is a customer facing role within the Library and Information Service, providing a quality and diverse range of services for its customers.

We are looking for someone who has a wide range of skills and wants to make a real difference in the community. We currently have a vacancy for a Library Assistant to work 11.75 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high standard of customer service and act as first point of contact for library users.
  • Answer enquiries in person and by telephone, assist users with self-service machines and public computers.
  • Staff the council information point and signpost to other agencies.
  • Work as part of a small team of dedicated staff carrying out a wide range of library duties.
  • Respond to the needs of the Council\'s Customer Service Point located in the library.
  • Be involved in assisting and running events for both adults and children.

Person specification / Qualifications

  • Demonstrate excellent IT and communication skills.
  • Have an interest in books and lifelong learning.
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment.

Hours and pattern

The 11.75 hours are worked over a two-week timetable and could include alternate Saturday mornings. The approximate pattern of hours is detailed below. There is a need for flexibility as there are times when you may be asked to work at other libraries.

  • Week One
    • Monday: 2.15 – 5.00
    • Thursday: 10.00 – 13.30
    • Friday: 10.00 – 13.30
  • Week Two
    • Monday: 2.15 – 5.00
    • Tuesday: 14.00 – 18.00
    • Thursday: 10.00 – 13.30
    • Friday: 10.00 – 13.30
