IT Operations Manager

We’re seeking an IT Operations Manager to lead infrastructure, networking, hosting, and end-user technology environments. This role is all about ensuring stability, security, and performancewhile delivering a seamless service experience to every team that depends on it.
You’ll step into a hands-on leadership position, guiding an established team, setting standards, and assuring quality. At the same time, you’ll keep the technical depth to dive into infrastructure, networking, and firewalls when needed.
A key focus will be embedding governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) into daily operations, maintaining secure, well‑managed environments fit for a regulated financial services business.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:Infrastructure & Network Operations
- Own the operation, optimisation, and lifecycle of enterprise network infrastructure
- Manage firewall configuration, network segmentation, and network security controls
- Ensure reliable connectivity, uptime, and performance across all systems and sites
- Maintain infrastructure health monitoring and drive proactive resolution of emerging issues
- Manage cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or similar) and hosting platforms for applications
- Ensure infrastructure supports application performance, availability, and scalability
- Own cloud cost visibility and drive infrastructure modernisation and cloud adoption initiatives
- Own the internal IT service desk: intake, triage, prioritisation, and resolution against agreed SLAs
- Manage endpoint provisioning, device standards, patching, and lifecycle management
- Administer identity and access management (Entra ID / Active Directory) and Microsoft 365 environments
- Manage onboarding and offboarding from a technology and access‑revocation perspective
- Continuously improve the internal user experience, fewer tickets, faster resolution, better self‑service
- Own the incident management process: severity classification, escalation, communication, and resolution
- Lead major incident response and ensure root cause analysis and corrective actions are completed and tracked
- Maintain and test backup, restore, and disaster recovery capability against defined RTO and RPO targets
- Maintain business continuity readiness for technology services, including documented runbooks
- Manage after‑hours and on‑call coverage arrangements across the team
- Embed sound governance, risk, and compliance practices across infrastructure and operations
- Manage firewall rules, access controls, privileged access, and security policy enforcement
- Run vulnerability monitoring, patch governance, and remediation tracking
- Ensure technology environments meet internal security standards and regulatory obligations (e.g. POPIA)
- Maintain clear segregation and data governance boundaries in a shared‑premises environment
- Maintain stable, well‑governed infrastructure for development, testing, and production environments
- Support CI/CD environments in partnership with engineering teams
- Operate a controlled change management process that supports delivery speed without compromising stability
- Lead, develop, and set standards for an established IT operations team
- Manage workload allocation, performance, capability development, and succession within the team
- Own relationships with ISPs, hardware suppliers, licensing partners, and managed service providers
- Manage IT operational budget, licensing spend, and cost forecasting
- Establish and maintain operational reporting on infrastructure and service health
- Track and report key metrics: system availability, incident volumes and trends, SLA performance, capacity, and operational risk
- Provide clear, decision‑ready reporting to leadership on the health of the technology estate
- Improve monitoring, automation, and operational tooling to reduce manual effort and recurring failure
Job Experience and Skills Required:
- Degree or relevant certification in IT, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field
- 6–10 years in IT infrastructure, networking, or operations, including at least 2–3 years leading a technical team. Demonstrated depth across enterprise-scale environments is weighted equally alongside tenure.
