The Role

The Hostess is responsible for delivering a warm, professional, and seamless dining arrival experience, ensuring all guests feel welcomed and valued from the moment they arrive. This role manages reservations, table assignments, and guest interactions with precision and grace, reflecting Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

Guest Arrival & Dining Experience

  • Greet all guests warmly upon arrival, ensuring a gracious and professional first impression
  • Escort guests to their tables while maintaining a polished and engaging presence
  • Ensure guests are seated according to their preferences and reservation details
  • Acknowledge departing guests with a courteous farewell, encouraging repeat visits
  • Ensure guest dress code complies with restaurant and hotel standards

Reservations Management

  • Handle restaurant reservations in a friendly, accurate, and professional manner
  • Respond to reservation inquiries via email and phone promptly, in line with hotel standards
  • Coordinate closely with restaurant management on special requests and VIP reservations

Guest Relations & Personalization

  • Prepare guest profiles and preferences prior to each service for team briefings
  • Maintain accurate guest records and update preferences in the guest history system
  • Anticipate guest needs and ensure a personalized and memorable dining experience
  • Maintain a consistently professional, friendly, and approachable demeanor

Operational Coordination

  • Attend daily pre-service briefings to stay informed on reservations, VIP guests, and updates
  • Liaise closely with service and kitchen teams to ensure smooth table flow and service timing
  • Communicate guest requirements clearly to relevant team members
  • Ensure seamless coordination during peak service periods

Menu Knowledge & Service Support

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of restaurant menus, ingredients, and offerings
  • Provide confident recommendations and respond accurately to guest inquiries
  • Support the service team in enhancing the overall dining experience

Service Excellence & Grooming Standards

  • Maintain impeccable personal grooming, hygiene, and uniform standards
  • Represent the hotel with professionalism and elegance at all times
  • Demonstrate attention to detail in all aspects of guest interaction and presentation

Pre-Opening Responsibilities

  • Participate in training sessions, SOP briefings, and service culture workshops
  • Assist in setting up reservation systems, host stand, and guest flow procedures
  • Take part in mock services and operational simulations
  • Support other departments as needed during pre-opening activities

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Hospitality Management or related field
  • Previous experience in a hostess, reservations, or guest relations role is an advantage
  • Experience in a luxury hotel or fine dining environment preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are an advantage
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Guest-focused with a warm and engaging personality
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in handling reservations and guest preferences
  • Ability to remain composed and professional in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong teamwork and coordination skills
  • Professional grooming and presentation
