Data Engineer - fully remote

Introduction

I’m recruiting for an exciting opportunity with an established technology business whose software is widely used within the South African and UK asset management industry. The business is expanding internationally and is looking for an analytical, curious and technically minded Data Engineer to join its growing team.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems and understanding how different systems and business processes connect. You’ll work closely with clients in the investment and research space, helping to build, configure and support customised data solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Configure and implement data solutions for clients.
  • Understand client business requirements and translate these into practical data solutions.
  • Build end-to-end data services and data management solutions.
  • Work directly with clients in a support and enhancement capacity.
  • Analyse, clean, transform and validate financial-market data.
  • Contribute to the design, development, testing and maintenance of data architectures.
  • Work with databases and large-scale data processing systems.
  • Develop solutions that improve data reliability, efficiency and quality.
  • Combine data from multiple sources and build complex queries.
  • Automate processes and improve existing workflows.
  • Work with data visualisation tools to help business users understand and interact with their data.
  • Collaborate with the Development team by providing feedback on functionality and logging issues.
  • Assist with creating user interfaces that allow clients to upload and manage their own data.
Technical Skills

We’re looking for someone with a solid technical foundation in areas such as:

  • SQL and database scripting.
  • Data analysis, modelling and transformation.
  • Data cleaning and integrity checking.
  • Excel or similar reporting tools.
  • Stored procedures, queries, functions and triggers.
  • Data integration and transformation.
  • Debugging, testing and refactoring.
  • Combining data from multiple sources.
  • Data visualisation, ideally with tools such as Power BI, Tableau or QlikView.
Advantageous, but not essential:
  • API integration / consuming APIs.
  • Experience with a programming language.
  • ETL or Data Warehousing knowledge.
  • SSIS.
  • R, MATLAB or other statistical languages.
Experience working with financial or investment data

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications A relevant tertiary qualification in one of the following areas would be ideal:
  • BSc Computer Science
  • B.IT / Informatics
  • Mathematics / Applied Mathematics
  • Actuarial Science
  • Engineering
  • Or another closely related quantitative/technical degree
Graduates and early-career candidates with the right analytical and technical foundation are encouraged to apply.
