About the Role Our client, a forward-thinking automotive aftermarket specialist based in Vereeniging, Gauteng , is actively seeking a highly skilled Automotive Performance Engineer . This role is pivotal in developing and implementing performance enhancement solutions for a variety of vehicles. You will be involved in everything from initial concept and design to testing and validation, working with cutting-edge technologies. The ideal candidate possesses a strong engineering background, a deep understanding of engine dynamics, vehicle dynamics, and tuning software. This position requires a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application in our state-of-the-art Vereeniging facility. You will be part of a passionate team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of automotive performance and innovation. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and test engine and vehicle performance enhancement components and systems. Conduct dyno testing and real-world performance validation to measure improvements. Develop and refine engine control unit (ECU) tuning maps for various applications. Analyze vehicle dynamics data to optimize handling, braking, and acceleration. Collaborate with design and fabrication teams to create custom performance parts. Troubleshoot and resolve performance-related issues encountered during testing or development. Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in automotive performance engineering. Prepare technical reports and documentation for project outcomes and findings. Ensure all development and testing activities comply with safety standards and regulations. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive performance engineering, tuning, or development. In-depth knowledge of internal combustion engine operation, thermodynamics, and engine management systems. Proficiency with engine dynamometers (dynos) and data acquisition systems. Experience with ECU tuning software and methodologies (e.g., Cobb, Haltech, EcuTek). Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, suspension geometry, and aerodynamics. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts clearly.
